Inter-faction Deputy Association «Clean Energy — Healthy Environment» has addressed the head of the Secretariat of the Energy Community, Artur Lorkovsky, regarding the prevention of the planned government initiative that will harm the future of the «green» energy sector and worsen the debt crisis. The association’s message was posted on Telegram.
The Deputy Association argues that the government’s proposed initiative, which aims to reduce the feed-in tariffs for renewable energy producers, will have negative consequences for the fledgling industry. Feed-in tariffs are government-mandated prices for the electricity generated by renewable energy sources, which guarantee producers a specific rate for the electricity they supply to the grid.
The «Clean Energy — Healthy Environment» Association believes that such a move by the government will not only discourage investors but also undermine the progress made in transitioning to a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly energy sector. The proposed reduction in feed-in tariffs will lead to lower revenues for renewable energy producers, causing a domino effect of financial difficulties and project delays.
According to the Association, this initiative is a step back from the commitments made by Ukraine to the Energy Community, an international organization aiming to integrate the energy markets of its member countries. It is also a violation of the Ukrainian Law on the Electricity Market, which provides for long-term contracts and guaranteed prices for renewable energy producers.
The Deputy Association highlights the importance of the renewable energy sector in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combatting climate change. Ukraine has committed to reducing its CO2 emissions and increasing the share of renewable energy in its energy mix. However, the proposed initiative undermines these efforts and puts Ukraine at risk of not meeting its goals.
The «Clean Energy — Healthy Environment» Association also expresses concern about the impact of the proposed initiative on the debt crisis in the energy sector. The current feed-in tariffs have already caused significant debt to accumulate in the state-owned energy company, which is responsible for purchasing and distributing renewable energy. The reduction in tariffs will only worsen this situation and create more financial difficulties for the company.
In conclusion, the Deputy Association emphasizes the need for the government to reconsider its proposed initiative and find alternative solutions to address the debt crisis. They urge the Ukrainian government to fulfill its commitments to the Energy Community and support the growth of the «green» energy sector to achieve a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future. The Association also calls upon the Energy Community to take action and prevent the implementation of this damaging initiative.
In the face of the global climate crisis, it is essential for governments to support the transition to clean and renewable energy sources. The «Clean Energy — Healthy Environment» Association’s message serves as a reminder of the significant role that renewable energy plays in creating a healthier and safer environment for all. It is a call to action for the government to prioritize the long-term benefits of a sustainable energy sector over short-term financial gains.
